Metso shredders are available in a number of different drive systems. These include:
- Squirrel cage motor and closed coupling
- Squirrel cage motor and open coupling
- Squirrel cage motor and open coupling plus gear box
- Slip ring motor and liquid rheostat
Metso also supply drive systems with DC-motors and Diesel-motors.
Design features
Each Metso shredder is quality engineered and incorporates a number of important design features. These include a tough ‘Shredder duty’ construction to cope with a wide variety of shredding operations, a motor with super-dimensioned bearings and increased vibration resistance to increase machine life and improve shredding action and a motor bearing and winding temperature monitoring system to ensure safe operation.

Metso shredder drive systems range in size from 680 to 10000 PS with Input voltages of 400V (low voltage) to 11kV (middle voltage).
