Metso strengthens its presence and services in mining in Suriname

Although Suriname is a country with a recent history in terms of large-scale mining exploitation, in recent years, they have grown exponentially thanks to the influence and fusion of existing cultures in Suriname, as well as the participation of global mining operators, leaders in gold exploitation, which has become the engine of its economy.  

There, the Rosebel gold mine of the Chinese group Zijin Mining operates one of South America's most important gold operations, with a processing capacity of 20,000 TPD. To optimize its performance, the mining unit found in Metso an ally for relining its 30-foot SAG mill and two of its three 16.5-foot ball mills. The relining service, which was recently completed, was successful and exceeded the client's expectations by having achieved the relining of the three mills before the expected time and maintaining detailed time control during the intervention, thus generating added value for the client. Consequently, this service became a critical milestone for Metso Perú & North relining services outside the Peruvian territory. Furthermore, the relining was carried out mainly by company specialists from Peru.  

In fact, Metso Perú & North had already repaired one of Zijin Rosbel’s crushers in April of this year and, in record time, executed the task in 10 days instead of the 14 days initially projected.

For Metso, the Suriname market is very relevant to its growth strategy as its growth projections in capital goods, spare parts, consumables, and services are 25% by 2024, compared to 2023, and sustained growth of that magnitude until 2027.
