As we bid farewell to 2023, we reflect on a year that was vibrant with discussions about green steel and the decarbonization of the steel industry. This topic was a central theme at major global conferences, including METEC 2023 in Germany, the world’s leading trade fair for metallurgical technology. Our interactions with customers consistently emphasized the pursuit of solutions for a carbon-neutral future. These discussions highlighted Metso’s progress towards achieving this goal and our commitment to assisting our customers in accelerating their decarbonization journey through our innovative products and technologies.

In 2023, with a primary focus on decarbonization and digitalization, Metso once again delivered pioneering technologies and products to the market. We also enhanced our existing product portfolio to offer even greater value to our customers:

We introduced the world’s first hydrogen-powered LowNOx burners for traveling grate pelletizing plants. This new product extends our Ferroflame^TM LowNOx burner family, initially launched for natural gas in 2022.

Our rotary kiln technology was developed further and we launched RotarEkiln™, a sustainable, electrically powered alternative to fuel-powered indirect rotary kilns. It stands as the only commercially available electric kiln with a shell diameter of up to 5 meters.

We successfully commissioned a new Emission Optimized Sintering (EOS) system in India, achieving immediate energy savings of 7-10%.
