Metso Volunteers

To complement the corporate level CSR programs, in 2022, we launced a Metso Volunteers program. Metso employees expressed their strong wish to do good and to have a positive influence on the surrounding communities where we are operating. Metso Volunteers program is based on a policy that allows all our employees to use up to three hours of work time in a year for volunteer activities.

The goal of the program is to set up local volunteer projects around the world where our employees can donate their time and engage in volunteer activities. The projects are led by local coordinators. In 2023, several volunteer programs took place in different countries, for example in Australia, Brazil, Canada, China and South Africa.

Metso Chile supports students through apprentice program

In September 2022, Metso leaders met with students at the Valparaíso Industrial School where the students learned about the Metso Apprentice Program. The program, designed by the AIEP Institute at Metso’s request, aimed to align students’ skills with the company’s requirements. Twenty students participated in the program, which ran from October to December 2022. Following this, they joined Metso’s 2023 work placement program, and based on their performance, skills, and values, four students were hired after a rigorous selection process.

In 2023, Metso established a local coordinator team in China for Metso Volunteers. Their mission: organize and coordinate volunteering activities across the country. Teams collaborated on charity projects, partnering with local NGOs. By year-end, 13 projects were underway in six locations.

These initiatives spanned environmental protection, charity sales & donations, humanitarian work, and community volunteering. Notable examples include Shanghai office’s Red Cross fundraiser during Family Day and Shaorui Heavy Industries’ Alzheimer’s awareness campaign, distributing bracelets with wearer information to aid lost elderly individuals.

Shadow Program in South Africa

In 2023, Metso South Africa in collaboration with the Brightspark Foundation implemented a Shadow Program,
featuring 15 high-school students. The initiative was part of the Metso Volunteers Program, with 13 dedicated volunteers accompanying the students for a day at our local office. The primary objective of the program was to offer a glimpse into the corporate environment, particularly for students hailing from underprivileged backgrounds and disadvantaged communities. The aim was to inspire the youth to study and aim high as well as to demonstrate different opportunities for the future.
