Experts thinking ahead - Outotec's sustainability report 2013 published
Outotec has again published its annual sustainability report, which describes the company's approach to sustainability, performance and achievements during the year as well as future targets. The theme of this report is 'Experts thinking ahead', illustrating the intelligence, innovation and inspiration of Outotec people.
Key achievements in Outotec's sustainability work in 2013 include the 'One Outotec' globally integrated QEHS management certification, calculating the carbon footprint of supply chain, significantly increased health and safety training for employees and subcontractors, new ambitious long-term target set for people development and the larger positive effect (5.4 million tonnes CO2-e emissions avoided) from using Outotec's metals-related technologies.
"Outotec's most significant impact on sustainability occurs indirectly through our customers' operations. This means that our handprint is bigger than our footprint. We want to be the kind of partner for our customers that can provide a future-proof solution, allowing them to comply with current and upcoming requirements. We have also done a lot of work to improve our own performance, data collection and reporting. For this reason I am very happy for Outotec being included in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index for the first time and ranked the third most sustainable company in the world on Corporate Knights' Global 100 list. This gives us great motivation to continue our steady work towards becoming even more sustainable", says Outotec CEO Pertti Korhonen.
