Outotec celebrates 80 years of its Frankfurt Research Center
Outotec celebrates 80 years of its research center in Frankfurt, Germany this month. Established in 1937 on Gwinnerstraße, just north east of Frankfurt city, the research center has earned its position as one of the industry's leading R&D hubs renowned for pioneering experimental research and versatile raw material testing in pilot plants.
From rotary kilns and iron ore pelletizing to a wealth of fluidized bed applications and off-gas treatment solutions - the Frankfurt Research Center continues to serve Outotec's customers in metals processing and energy industries. In a world of increasingly complex ores and ever-tightening environmental regulations, the Outotec team is constantly called upon by the world's leading companies to find solutions to their raw material processing and productivity challenges.
Some of the key developments over the last 80 years include:
- Induration or iron ore pellets
- Direct reduction of iron ores in a rotary kiln
- Calcination of aluminum hydrate, clay, lithium ore, and phosphate rock in circulating fluidized bed
- Combustion and gasification of coal and non-fossil fuels in circulating fluidized bed
- Roasting of pyrite, gold ore, and sulphur bearing residues
Outotec's research centers have also played a central role in developing plant digitalization solutions, combining an unrivalled experience in metallurgical processes with the best automation systems and digital tools.
