Metso’s screening solutions meet EU safety requirements and ensure operational safety

Metso Corporation’s press release on April 1, 2025, at 09:00 a.m. EEST

Metso’s stationary screens are designed with safety in mind, ensuring all maintenance adheres to the highest safety standards set by the European Union. Metso ensures reliable equipment performance and safety for operators and maintenance personnel.

The EU standard (EN 1009-1:2020) outlines the safety requirements and their verification for designing and constructing screening machinery used in quarrying, recycling, and processing minerals and by-products. The EU standard sets among all minimum distance requirements for the intermediate space of screens, which are already met by the majority of Metso’s stationary screening range.

Additionally, the standard specifies the type of information on safe working practices, including residual risks, that must be provided by the manufacturer.

“At Metso, safety is paramount, it should be all encompassing not operation focused, equally important is maintenance, and this should always have a safe working environment. Good equipment design should create safe working and operating conditions. Our stationary screens not only meet but exceed current safety requirements set by the European Union. This easy access is critical as screen maintenance and inspection interventions are frequent, with not only regular weekly and monthly routine-based condition checks, but potentially regular replacement of screen panels which must be carried out safely whilst still aiming for the shortest possible maintenance downtime,” says Adrian Wood, Vice President, Central Region Screening business line at Metso.

Meet Metso screening solutions and service experts in BAUMA 2025 international construction machinery trade fair taking place on April 7-13, 2025, in Munich, Germany. Metso booth #203 is in Hall B2.

Safety as a guiding principle in screening solution development

Metso offers a full portfolio of parts, services and equipment to ensure that customers get the best out of their screening process.

Trellex® GS is designed to increase uptime and safety. The modules are available in both increased lifetime rubber and PU. The smaller panel design reduces weight which is a safety benefit through easier handling when making change-outs. Reduced waste is an added benefit as smaller areas can be replaced.

Using Metrics monitoring for screens: Creates a safer working environment, through reduced manual checks, faults remotely verified, maintenance needs anticipated, ensuring the minimum number of manual interventions, and maximum operating time.
