Building a classroom for a secondary school
In 2022, Metso donated a classroom to a local Tshaile Secondary School in Mononono. The school has more than 450 pupils and its serious lack of infrastructure and other important resources made it difficult to enable a conducive teaching and learning environment.
Metso endeavored to help build, transport, and place the infrastructure for a classroom, as this would significantly improve the school’s ability to advance and prepare its students for the future. The classroom was equipped with tables and chairs, and everything else it needed, and is connected to electricity, making it a fully functional classroom.
Support packages for graduating students
Metso South Africa supported Temogo Special School in 2022 and 2023, based on the recommendation of our client in the area, Pilanesberg Platinum Mine.
Temogo Special School is located in Mogwase Township, Bojanala District in South Africa, and it caters for special-needs learners. The school provides training on welding, maintenance, bricklaying, food production, needlework, beauty, hair and nails, agriculture, and arts and crafts.
At Metso, we are proud to partner with schools with the aim to make a difference in the lives of children. Metso South Africa handed over “starter-packs” to over 60 graduating students at the school’s farewell events. The packages included practical items related to welding, bricklaying and maintenance, supporting the students in their new profession and kicking off the start of their careers. Pilanesberg mine and Metso representatives were present at this event and had the honor of delivering an encouraging speech to the graduates.
Metso Africa Leadership Team supports the BrightSpark Foundation
In July 2023, the Metso South Africa Leadership Team collaborated to assemble ten bicycles, which were later donated to the BrightSpark Foundation. The BrightSpark Foundation has a strong focus on providing educational opportunities for young adults in South Africa. Members of the Leadership Team officially handed over the bicycles to the youth facilitators who play a crucial role in supporting the community and local schools.
Donating desks and chairs to Segakwane Primary School
Segakwane Primary School, nestled in the village of Segakwane in the Northwest Province in South Africa, is a public primary school renowned for its dedication to fostering a nurturing and dynamic learning environment. In 2023 Metso collaborated with the Rifilwe Foundation to support the school with 100 student desks and chairs, as well as a substantial amount of stationery needed for the students. Metso employees also donated books to the school.
Representatives from the Field Service and mill-relining teams visited the school to hand over the items and meet with students and teachers.
