Unlocking customer value: The benefits of the Metso Dewatering Development Hub servicing the Americas

The mining industry is constantly evolving, with an increasing focus on efficiency, sustainability, and reliability. At Metso, we understand that dewatering solutions play a crucial role in optimizing mine operations, reducing water consumption, and improving overall process performance. That’s why we have established the Dewatering Development Hub in Irapuato, Mexico — an advanced facility dedicated to driving innovation, quality and optimizing supply to the Americas.

Enhancing our existing filter operations footprint

The new hub in Mexico is a significant enhancement to Metso’s existing filter operations footprint. Metso operates filtration technology centers in Finland and China, a dewatering technology center and a ceramics center in Finland.

Metso’s filtration portfolio consists of 15 different filter types and comprehensive services for various applications. Over 80% of the Metso filters are part of the company’s Metso Plus portfolio, primarily due to their efficiency in the recovery and reuse of water. The company has carried out more than 14,000 filtration tests and delivered over 5,000 filters for various applications worldwide. Many of the filters are sold under the Larox® product name along with Metso corporate branding. Read more about filtration on our website.

Our commitment to innovation and localizing our dewatering solutions in the Americas ensures that our customers receive the highest quality products with reduced lead times. This strategic move enhances not only operational efficiency but also our dedication to sustainability.

What does this mean for our customers?

1. Faster lead times, greater availability

One of the biggest challenges in mining operations is ensuring timely equipment and spare parts availability. Our customers benefit from significantly reduced lead times by localizing the production of critical dewatering technologies, including our high-performance Metso Larox® FFP filter plates. With a regional supply chain in place, we can streamline production and logistics, ensuring equipment is readily available when and where it’s needed.

2. Sustainability at the core

Sustainability is no longer an option, it’s a necessity. The Irapuato facility is designed with sustainable manufacturing techniques using renewable energy, including advanced recycling programs. By minimizing waste and optimizing resource use, we help mining companies achieve their environmental, social, and governance (ESG) goals while maintaining operational efficiency.

3. Optimized performance through innovation

At Metso, continuous improvement is part of our DNA. Following Metso's IP process, the Irapuato Hub is dedicated to researching, testing, and developing cutting-edge dewatering solutions. Customers can expect next-generation filter plates and other dewatering components that enhance operational performance, extend equipment life, and lower the total cost of ownership.

4. Local support and expertise

Having a regional development hub means that our customers across the Americas benefit from increased localized technical support, faster response times, and expertise tailored to the unique challenges of mining operations in the region. Our team of experts is available to provide on-site support, training, and assessments, ensuring our solutions are fully optimized for each customer’s needs.

5. Resilient and reliable supply chains

Global supply chain disruptions have highlighted the importance of regional production and sourcing. By strengthening our manufacturing capabilities in Mexico, we offer customers a more resilient and reliable supply of dewatering equipment. This minimizes risks associated with economic and governmental volatility causing shipping delays and helps maintain stable operations.
