My name is Antti Ursin and I’m living, studying, and working in Espoo, Finland. I started my studies at Aalto University back in 2016 when I was selected for the study program of Mechanical Engineering. I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Technology during the first COVID outbreak in 2020 and now I’m in the middle of my master’s degree studies and starting my fifth academic year at the university.
#MetsoOutotecSummer - Antti Ursin
During my bachelor studies, I majored in Mechanical Engineering and had a minor from the Aalto University School of Business. This meant I was eligible to apply for a full master’s program in business as well. I applied, got accepted and currently, I have two master’s degree studies ongoing simultaneously. In engineering studies, I’m majoring in materials and production technology and in business my major is in international business and strategy.
I chose to apply to Metso Outotec for multiple reasons, one of which is the company’s strong input in sustainable development which is an important value for me personally. Metso Outotec Finland also hires lots of summer trainees, this year the total number was around 180. Furthermore, Metso Outotec is a global company with lots of positions and different opportunities for different stages of one’s career.
During the summer, I worked as a Summer Trainee, Proposal Engineer for Minerals Sales in Market Area Europe. As a proposal engineer, I’m working in-between front-end sales professionals and technical experts in product management. My day-to-day work includes preparing sales documents and proposal packages which are then used in sales negotiations with the end customer. The job includes lots of numbers, product configuration, and problem-solving with the help of my colleagues.
In my position, I have learned a lot about sales processes and practices and how they are linked to the latter project management and delivery phase. Metso Outotec has a huge portfolio of products and it has been interesting to learn more about different cutting-edge technologies. In my job, I have mainly worked with filters and automation solutions. I’ve also visited the manufacturing site and office in Lappeenranta and the automation test lab here in Espoo.
My favorite part of the summer has been the people I’ve worked with. I’ve met lots of different professionals in their own field as well as other summer trainees. It has been intriguing to see and hear different career paths which have led them here now – there is quite a variety in people’s backgrounds! I feel like I’ve grown professionally a lot during the summer, and I have been able to combine my technical and business studies very well in this position. After the summer trainee period, I’m continuing as a part-time employee along with my studies.
For anyone considering applying for a role at Metso Outotec, from my point of view, I can highly recommend the company as an employer. I have enjoyed my time here with great colleagues.
