I am originally from the South of Italy, precisely Napoli. Soon after graduating from high school, I moved to Bologna to study the Bachelor of Arts, Drama and Performing Events at the Alma Mater Studiorum, one of the oldest university institutions in Europe. After several years working in the Performing Arts industry, both as an Artistic Director and an Events Manager, I needed to challenge myself with something that has always fascinated me, but never really gave it a try: International Business and Marketing. That is why I moved to Finland and started my International Business Bachelor at Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences. I graduated in two and a half years while working on some side projects to improve my digital marketing skills and prepare myself for the job market.
#MetsoOutotecSummer - Evelina Califano
One of the reasons why I decided to apply to Metso Outotec, was my desire to give a personal contribution to help to fight climate change and to promote sustainability. Metso Outotec is one of the top leaders that has this mission and, although I did not have any previous working experience in the aggregate and mining industries, I was intrigued by the possibility to learn from the top professional marketers in these industries. I decided to apply because I strongly believe that work is not only something you do for economic independence, but it is highly important that the companies you choose to work with have a higher purpose, challenging the standards of today’s business operations and making that positive change in our world.
I worked as a Summer Trainee in the Marketing Team of Market Area Europe. During this summer, I had the chance to improve my digital skills by creating content with Adobe Suite CC and working on search engine optimization for on-page and off-page. I was also able to learn to use top-notch marketing tools such as Salesforce, Pardot, Episerver CMS and Meltwater. During this experience, I have learned so much about the aggregate industry, that I was also assigned to run a search engine marketing strategy to promote the company’s French website.
My summer at Metso Outotec was extremely educational and busy. I was given the opportunity to work either remotely or at the office. Unfortunately, due to the coronavirus pandemic, the office was quite empty, although I had the chance to meet some other trainees and Metso Outotec employees that guided me throughout the several facilities at the Espoo Office.
My supervisor was also a huge help during the summer: although not physically present, he was able to support me daily throughout the traineeship, motivating me to do my best and providing me with valuable feedback on how to develop my marketing career further. I am grateful for this opportunity to work with him and his team.
One of my favorite parts of the summer was when realizing that all the hard work at the beginning of the traineeship paid back about a month later. Whereas at first, some tasks seemed a bit complicated, later on, I managed to gain confidence with not only certain tools but also with my capabilities and skills. I was also trusted to undertake additional tasks, which built up my confidence further.
I will for sure apply again next summer to this incredible opportunity and I hope to get to work with the same Marketing team. If you want to learn from top-level marketers of these industries and want to contribute to making a positive impact on our world, while also nurturing your skills and competencies, look no further, here at Metso Outotec you have a chance to contribute to a positive change.
