Meet Alexander Tsay, our Field Service Engineer working in Kazakhstan. His career path at Metso started over two years ago, and still to this day, he finds enjoyment from learning something new every day. Alexander guides us through his usual daily tasks.

My name is Alexander Tsay, and I work as a Field Service Engineer at Metso. A Service Engineer is a specialist responsible for the maintenance, repair, and technical support of various equipment and systems. The work of a service engineer includes diagnostics and troubleshooting, carrying out scheduled repairs, as well as updating and upgrading technical systems and equipment.

A Field Service Engineer needs to have knowledge in mechanics, electronics, electrical engineering, and information technology, as well as to be able to work with appropriate diagnostic equipment and software. Service engineers often work locally for clients, requiring flexibility, excellent communication skills, and the ability to solve problems quickly and effectively. This role is important in many industries, including manufacturing, information technology, medicine, construction, and the automotive industry.

My workdays revolve around ensuring the efficient and reliable operation of technical equipment and systems. A significant part of my role involves diagnosing and troubleshooting issues, which includes analyzing errors and testing various systems and components to resolve problems. I also handle scheduled maintenance, performing regular upkeep to prevent future malfunctions and extend the lifespan of the equipment.

In addition to this, I am responsible for installing and configuring new equipment based on project or client specifications, as well as updating and upgrading existing systems to incorporate the latest technologies. Another key aspect of my work is providing technical advice to customers, helping them with the operation and maintenance of their equipment. Lastly, I carry out repair work, which often involves replacing worn or damaged parts to keep everything running smoothly.

Before joining Metso, I was working on a production site where I gained significant experience in servicing the largest Lokotrack LT200 in the world. I was impressed with this equipment and decided to join the Metso team to learn about other technical solutions.

What I like about my job is the variety of tasks which gives me a sense of constant learning and professional development. By now I've been working at Metso for more than two years and I’m happy to admit that there is still room for my professional development - I get to learn something new every day.
