I`m originally from Noormarkku, Finland, which is a small town right next to Pori. I used to work in construction, but one and a half years ago I decided I needed new challenges. I started studying process management because I found this industry to be very interesting. This summer I got a great chance to be a summer trainee at Metso Outotec Research Center in Pori.
#MetsoOutotecSummer - Niko Rostedt
I was really hoping to get my first summer trainee contract with Metso Outotec Research Center because the work that is done here is very interesting, complex and diverse. I believe this is the best place to learn about this industry. I love solving problems and testing new things and that is what we do here, almost every day. Additionally, the work community is very international, so we get to practice other languages on a daily basis.
This summer I have worked in minerals processing laboratory and I have learned so many new things: from crushing the material, grinding it, doing sieving tests to driving laser and XRF-analyzers. As were so many new things to learn, the summer went incredibly fast, and I can’t believe it`s almost gone already.
Luckily, I was able to do shiftwork. This way, I felt I had some extra time for my hobbies as well. I was also able to do some schoolwork during the summer, and this way got some credits too. The highlight of my summer was without a doubt the Locked Cycle tests we did. These tests are very complex and can run many days straight.
I’m extremely happy that I was offered an opportunity to continue working here after the summer. Metso Outotec is a great place to work: the atmosphere is great, and the people are inspiring. In addition, health and safety measures are taken very seriously, which I appreciate highly.
