14 years of high performance: GP300S serves green energy for the Olympics

Green Olympics is a key concept of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games, which requires environmentally friendly facilities, technical support, energy use and other aspects. All 26 venues in the three areas of the Beijing Winter Olympic Games will be powered by green electricity during the games, marking the first time in Olympic history that all venues will be powered by 100% green electricity.

The Fengning pumped storage Power Station is located in Fengning Manchu Autonomous County, Chengde City, Hebei Province. It is connected with the Fukang Converter Station of the Zhangbei Flexible DC power grid test and demonstration project of renewable energy through 500 kV line, which is a key project to help Beijing Winter Olympics achieve 100% green power supply. The power station is equipped with 12 units with a capacity of 300,000 kW, with a total installed capacity of 3.6 million kW. The annual designed power generation capacity is 6.612 billion KWH, and the annual pumped electricity is 8.716 billion KWH. It is the largest pumped storage power station in the world and known as the world's largest "super charger".

On December 30, 2021, the first two generator sets in Fengning Pumped storage Power Station are put into operation, which can not only guarantee the full coverage of green electricity in the venues of the Winter Olympics, but also provide continuous green power for the coordinated development of Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei provinces. After all units are put into operation, fengning pumped storage power station will be able to store nearly 40 million KWH of new energy, save 480,000 tons of standard coal and reduce 1.2 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions every year.

The Pumped storage power station is the construction of two reservoirs on the hill and under the mountain. In the trough of power consumption, the surplus clean electric energy is used to pump the water under the mountain to the mountain. The electric energy is then converted into the potential energy of water. The release water will generate electricity at peak hours, and convert the potential energy of water into electricity. Its function is equivalent to a giant "charging treasure", which is used as a voltage regulator of the power grid and a storage of clean energy.
