Lokotrack® with screen and wind sifter ensures a clean recycling process in Germany

Process economy and clean end products are the two vital issues in ensuring a productive and profitable recycling process. The German companies Josef Bohnen GmbH and Josef Esser Sand und Kies GmbH, operating in sand and gravel processing and recycling, met these challenges by acquiring a Lokotrack® LT1213S™ impactor plant with a screen that, for the first time ever, can be operated with a wind sifter to blow away the light particles.

“Previously, we were running our recycling business with Metso’s Lokotrack® LT1110™ impactor plant and a separate mobile screen. Since buying the Lokotrack LT1213S model with attached screen, we have been able to reach a higher production level and lower fuel consumption,” comments Managing Director Matthias Haus of Josef Bohnen.

“We are able to process more than 200 tons of various recycle materials per hour. Operated with the wind sifter, now we can separate light particles like wood, plastics and paper from the process; this gives us a higher value for the recycled end products,” he adds.

The wind sifter consists of a compact unit with electric motor, fan and air hoses that direct the air stream precisely on the discharge and main conveyors.

A shared operation between two companies

Josef Bohnen GmbH has its main sand and gravel processing operations in Swisttal, North Rhine-Westphalia, south of the city of Cologne. The same plant features the highly functional assembly for the LT1213S.

A safe and sturdy concrete ramp has been built for the feeding with a front-end loader. Additional hopper walls help the materials to move smoothly into the feeder and further to the NP1213M impact crusher.

Josef Bohnen GmbH shares the LT1213S operation with another company, Josef Esser Sand und Kies GmbH. Both companies are active in recycling and in sand and gravel operations.

Concrete with rebar as well as bricks and asphalt are screened and cleaned, resulting in end products consisting of 0-45-mm sized materials. The processed materials are used for base materials and land filling.

“There is a potential for recycling”

“With the continuously rising cost of disposal, there is surely potential for recycling in the future. With modern equipment and skilled personnel, our target is to keep our operations profitable and the end products clean and easy to reuse,” states Matthias Haus.
