SAMIN, a subsidiary of the St Gobain group, specialises in the extraction, processing, preparation and marketing of silica sands and industrial minerals. It was created in the 1950s and has 8 production sites in France. SAMIN produces sands for glass furnaces, for the production of hollow glass bottles. The Marcheprime site, in operation since 1969, produces sand with a very high silica content (over 98%) and a very low Iron content (less than 130 ppm). This high-quality sand is used to manufacture bottles for the luxury industry, for the bottling of Cognac in particular, as its very low Iron content makes it possible to produce a glass without green reflections. Under the direction of Mr. HANON, 10 people ensure the production in 2 or 3 shifts per day, for an annual production of 350,000 tons of sand. The site has an operating permit until 2028. More information about the Marcheprime website can be find in French from this video.
