Courier 5i and 6i SL Analyzer® Shelter Fast installation - ready for use

High performance analyzer system is now available in a 20-foot container that enables shorter delivery times, faster installation and commissioning, and easy onsite training.

The Courier 5i (and 6i) SL Analyzer® is now available in a 20-foot container that enables shorter delivery times, faster installation and commissioning, and easy onsite training. The Courier Analyzer Shelter is delivered to the customer’s site tailored to the intended process and ready for use. The analyzer is usually installed in the container already in the production phase, the equipment is tested, and the entire package is delivered to the customer’s site with no additional disassembling and reassembling required.

Once the Courier 5i SL Analyzer Shelter has been delivered to the customer's site, the installation is rapid and the equipment is ready for use after the electricity, water, pressurized air, and slurry sample flows have been installed. Onsite training can be conveniently conducted inside the shelter, as it absorbs the surrounding noise.

The shelter also protects the analyzer equipment from dust and dirt, which extends the lifespan of the equipment. Furthermore, the shelter provides improved working conditions for operators. Using the analyzers inside the shelter with less noise and better illumination also facilitates learning and usability.

Reference case: Belvedere Mining - Hiture Nickel Mine

The Hitura Nickel Mine was established in 1970. The mine was operational until 2007, when it was closed down. Belvedere Resources Limited, a Canadian mining company purchased the Hitura Mine and decided to restart nickel production in 2010. The mine also produces cobalt and copper as byproduct, and it has customers around the world

After the decision to restart mining operations, upgrades were required as the analyzers dated back to the early 1980s there were no new spare parts available for the computer equipment, and the software knowledge was very limited. The existing Courier slurry analyzer and the Proscon 210 automation systems could have been used by the mine for the next couple of years but not longer, so the company decided to modernize the analyzer and automation systems and bring them up to date. The Hitura Mine took delivery of a Courier 5i SL Analyzer Shelter with Proscon 2100 Upgrade in September 2010.

“For the Hitura Mine, the Outotec Courier 5i SL Analyzer Shelter is the perfect match, as the concentrator has limited space,” says Oskari Vetriö, Project Manager at Outotec.

“The customer was offered the shelter solution as it provides a safe and pleasant working environment for the operators, as well as reliable online sampling and easy automation. The installed shelter also protects the analyzer and automation equipment from dust, dirt and water in the challenging conditions in the concentrator hall. Clean equipment is easy, pleasant and safe to use, and it also lasts longer,” Oskari continues.

“Outotec offered us the Courier in a shelter, and overall the proposal was good – the only worry at first was how it would fit into our small and tight production facilities,” says Väinö Rönkä, Mill Manager of Belvedere Mining Oy, Hitura Mine.

“It is not that simple to install new equipment in old production facilities, but the planning and the sizing was done so well that there were no unpleasant surprises upon delivery. I was positively surprised by the speed and how well the container fitted into place. The removal of the old Courier 30 and installation of the new one took two weeks, yet we were able to continue our process without an analysis. In the installation phase the operators were trained on the new equipment. For a small organization like ours, the training can be easily conducted inside the container itself,” Väinö adds.

“The sizing of the delivered container was good; it offers us good facilities in which to work and operate. The analyzer in a container is a compact package, and as the equipment is in the shelter they remain in good condition. The equipment is user-friendly, the technical performance is good and it serves us well, no complaints,” Väinö summarizes.
