Metso Outotec flotation experts Martin Brändström and Guillermo Bermúdez as well as Hudbay's Vice President of Technical Services, Peter Amelunxen, deep dive into the details of the flotation center launder upgrade at Constancia mine.
Metso Outotec and Hudbay worked together to improve rougher flotation performance at Hudbay’s Constancia site, located in southern Peru. As a result, a new launder design helped the mine significantly increase their copper recovery by 0.70% and molybdenum by 1.40%.

As Vice President of Technical Services, Peter oversees Hudbay’s technical and operational processes. He is responsible for managing internal and external project review, due diligence processes, project and operational governance, reporting and operational risk management.
He worked for 20 years in diverse roles including consulting, grinding and flotation circuit modelling, plant operations (Freeport McMoran), engineering, and laboratory testing and has authored many papers on the testing, modelling, and design of mineral processing systems. Peter completed his Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering at the University of Arizona, and his Master’s degree in Mining, Metals, and Materials Engineering at McGill University.
Martin started working with Metso Outotec in 2011 as a Spare Part Product Manager. During his career, he has held several roles within service product management focusing on service growth and long-term strategy development. Today, he is the Senior Technical Sales Support, Flotation and Automation Services for North and Central America. His goal is to increase awareness of flotation maintenance and help customers maximize their flotation operations through upgrades.
Martin comes from Sweden and holds a Master of Mechanical Engineering from the Chalmers University of Technology. He is currently based in Toronto, Canada and he enjoys running, sailing, and hosting barbeques during his free time.
Guillermo joined Metso Outotec in 2014, with previous operational experience in Pyro and Hydrometallurgical plants. He has held multiple roles throughout his time at Metso Outotec including Process Metallurgist, Technical Support, Site Account Manager and currently Global Product Manager for Flotation Upgrades.
Guillermo has led many initiatives such as mineral processing test work, process assessments, concentrator plant commissioning and ramp-up, as well as the development of Metso Outotec products.
He is originally from Sonora, Mexico and holds a B.SC Chemical Engineering and MBA. He is also Six Sigma Green-Belt, and PMP Certified. Guillermo is currently based in Burlington, Canada and enjoys trail running, mountain biking, and hiking in his free time.
