Metso Full portfolio HGMF® high gradient magnetic filters
Metso HGMF® high gradient magnetic filters remove iron and copper corrosion particles from boiler condensate with high efficiency. They are also used in cleaning for example oils and glycols from sub-micron iron particles.
Metso HGMF® magnetic filters have many capabilities.
Capabilities

• Increase thermal efficiency by reusing more hot condensates of feed water quality for high pressure boilers.

• Remove high levels of iron and copper from condensates during startups and upset conditions.

• Treat condensates hotter than those accepted by resin polisher systems.

• Decrease losses in condensate and heat values during production upsets.

• Reduce iron and copper buildup rates in boilers.

• Increase time spans between boiler cleanings significantly.

• Save cost by requiring less fuel in the boilers.

• Allow more hot condensates to be used during mill restarts.

• Reduce dependence on alternate boiler feed water sources.

• Increase boiler availability and reliability.

• Reduce boiler cleaning and waste disposal costs.

For various conditions and applications

Thanks to unique design, Metso HGMF® magnetic filters function effectively under various conditions. They maintain high efficiency in widely ranging flowrates and polish also heavily contaminated and hot condensates.

Metso HGMF® magnetic filters can be used alone or in conjunction with other polishing steps.

When used alone, for high pressure power and recovery boilers, the filter achieves acceptable feed water qualities. Utilizing the filter with other polishing steps, on the other hand, will increase the duty cycles of those steps significantly.

How HGMF® filters operate

Metso HGMF® filters operate by magnetizing a filamentary matrix filter bed contained within a pressure vessel. When the condensate flows through the filter bed, the particulate iron and copper oxides are captured and held magnetically in the filter bed until the filter is back-flushed.

The filter bed matrix has a void volume of approximately 90 percent. Therefore, when operating, it has a low differential pressure drop and a large holding capacity for trapped solids.

When the matrix is loaded, the filter is flushed. The flush cycle is triggered automatically by a specified increase across the filter, or by a specified elapsed time, whichever occurs first. The flush cycle takes about 90 seconds.
