The Metso High Efficiency Scrubber is equipped with a deflector plate, which forms a circular gap through which gas and scrubbing liquid flow, generating the pressure drop required for the removal of impurities. The size of the gap is automatically adjusted in order to maintain the pressure drop, thereby ensuring consistent, highly efficient performance at varying gas volumes. A downstream droplet separator removes entrained scrubbing liquid droplets from the gas.
Improved environmental performance
The main function of the Metso High Efficiency Scrubber is particle removal. Scrubbing liquid is injected through spray nozzles into the gas, which is accelerated afterwards in the circular gap to produce a turbulent flow regime. The particles are captured by the scrubbing liquid droplets and thus removed from the gas because of the high relative velocities between particles and droplets.
The turbulent mixing of gas and droplets in the circular gap at high gas velocities produces a large mass transfer area. Mass transfer between gas and liquid is also increased due to the turbulence, meaning that gaseous impurities are removed from the gas along with particles.
The Metso High Efficiency Scrubber Optimizer can be utilized to automatically adjust pressure drop of the scrubber to process conditions, thereby enabling energy savings while still meeting the performance targets of the plant.
Easy maintenance and low lifecycle costs
The scrubbing zone can be fully or partially removed and exchanged, making maintenance easier and less costly and extending the lifespan of the solution.
Flexible solution for different processes and plant arrangements
The Metso High Efficiency Scrubber is delivered as a standalone tower with an integrated pump tank and attached platforms. The integrated pump tank and attached platforms minimize the footprint and eliminate the need for additional steel structures and platforms.
An OtoVent™ quench section can be installed directly on top of the scrubber to combine two processes in one equipment. This minimizes the gas cleaning plant’s overall footprint or enables easier integration into an existing plant.
Durable construction materials
The Metso High Efficiency Scrubber is constructed of fiber-reinforced plastic that is resistant to most chemicals. Areas sensitive to particle erosion are protected by an extra protection layer. This makes the scrubber suitable for processes using corrosive gases with high dust load. The solution can also be constructed using high alloy steel.
